Application requirements

The closing date for applications regarding the core programme courses is minimum four weeks before the courses start. For the advanced programme applications should be submitted seven weeks prior to the commencement of the course.

The NSJ courses are open to print, broadcast and new media journalists and other media practitioners who are citizens of one of the 14 countries of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). It is not a decisive factor whether they work for the state, private media or are freelance.

As the majority of course participants are mid-career journalists, applicants should have at least three years of working experience as journalists.

Fluency in written and spoken English is generally required, except for participants from Lusophone countries where Portuguese is the normal language of instruction.
