NSJ has a network of highly qualified trainers throughout the region. A current total of 70 NSJ-trainers regularly meet in workshops to update themselves on training techniques and subjects. To meet international standards we closely cooperate with international journalism institutes.
NSJ’s scholarship-based programme also ensures that journalists from less privileged media backgrounds can improve their professional skills.
Apart from a share of the travelling cost and private expenses, courses are fully sponsored by NSJ and its donors.
One of the NSJ’s objective is to increase women’s opportunities in journalism:
We therefore strive for gender balance when recruiting men and women to each course. As women are still under-represented in journalism and media management, they are particularly supported and invited to apply. Gender equality issues are also promoted in the content of the courses.
Each of NSJ’s courses has a minimum duration of two weeks to ensure in-depth and profound learning. Our training approach is participant and process-oriented containing elements of group work. Lessons include media review, analysis and discussion, theory as well as practical training. The number of participants in each course is limited to ensure individual coaching.
NSJ is one of most experienced media training institutes in the southern African region, offering high impact training and sustainable learning.
NSJ brings together journalists and media-practitioners from Tanzania to Swaziland, Mozambique to Namibia - a unique opportunity for each participant to establish invaluable professional contacts and networks across the region.
